We will do this by:

•  Partnering with significant suppliers in improving shared access and inclusion standards

•  Deepening engagement with leading suppliers.

•  Continuing to partner with Australian Disability Network to grow our impact across the Australian business community

Hidden Disabilities Sunflower

Hanes Australasia as signed up as a Corporate Member of the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower scheme supporting people with disabilities that may not be so obvious to the casual observer. Globally 1 in 6 of us live with a disability. That is approximately 1.3 billion people. But while some people experience a disability that is visible, many have a non-visible condition.
Many people with a disability use or carry something – whether that’s a wheelchair, guide dog, hearing aid or white cane – that visibly indicates what the disability might be. But other disabilities, such as autism, dementia, mental health issues or learning difficulties, are not so obvious.

The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower is a simple tool for people to voluntarily share that they have a disability or condition that may not be immediately apparent – and that they may need a helping hand, understanding, or more time in shops, at work, on transport, or in public spaces.

Making the invisible, visible.
Hanes became Corporate Members of the Sunflower Program in 2024. Many of our team members are now trained as Sunflower Supporters and we’ve launched a pilot program of Quiet Hours across some of our retail stores, with plans to expand this further.

WISE Employment

As one of Australia’s leading not-for-profit employment services providers, WISE Employment delivers government-funded employment programs like Disability Employment Services (DES) and Workforce Australia, offering support that goes beyond employment to help more Australians thrive in work and life. WISE have helped hundreds of thousands of job seekers to find work with inclusive employers who recognise the value of diversity.

Career Mentoring Program

The Australian Disability Network (AusDN) Career Mentoring Program (formerly known as PACE) is a valuable initiative that enables Hanes Australasia team members to act as Mentors and build disability confidence, while making a meaningful impact on a jobseeker’s career journey.

Through the Career Mentoring program, HAA team members are matched with individuals with disability in a mentoring relationship. Over the course of several sessions, mentors provide insights, guidance, and coaching to support mentees in developing their career skills and achieving their goals. We have proudly participated in the AusDN Career Mentoring Program since 2023.

Through the program, our team members have shared their expertise and skills with individuals seeking guidance, support, and confidence in their career development and job search journey. In addition to developing their soft skills, mentees also have the opportunity to visit their mentor’s workplace, gaining valuable insight into the daily working environment at Hanes Australasia.

In-house Barista Program

In 2021 Hanes formed a partnership with Disability Employment Services Providers, in line with our commitment to diversity and inclusivity. This partnership included a barista employment initiative, for people living with a disability, who are trained baristas making delicious coffees on site in our Support Offices.

We launched the initiative in our Burwood office in 2021 and currently have in-house baristas on site in both our Kew & Pyrmont Support offices. These baristas make coffee for our staff three days a week and have quickly become part of our Hanes family!

Team members can make a donation when ordering their coffee and those funds are donated or re-invested in our access & inclusion initiatives for people living with disability.
